Discus Dental, a Philips Company, announced the release of SL3TM, the only desktop diode laser in the market that offers multiple high-end features at an entry-level price.  Engineered by the same innovators of the award-winning NV Microlaser, SL3 delivers a robust feature set, advanced portability and convenience, and an 8-CE credit, laser certification course at no additional cost, making it an unparalleled value.

“SL3 is in direct response to the input we’ve gathered from customers in one on one discussions, as well as formal research. The combination of features, the user interface, and the price point are all the result of working with customers through the design and development process,” said Frank McGillin, General Manager of Discus Dental. “We are very proud to bring this product to market.”

The SL3 offers the following features:

  • Disposable fiber-tips that eliminate the need to strip and score fiber before each use.
  • Cordless mobility between operatories with long-lasting battery operation.
  • A wireless foot pedal for convenient laser activation without the finger fatigue and loss of dexterity/visibility associated with finger activated lasers.
  • Full color LCD touch screen interface with 18 General Dentistry and Orthodontic presettings.

“The SL3 represents the best balance of affordability and convenience available today.  If you’ve been considering a laser, knowing you have the training support of Discus and American-made quality, takes away the worries,” said Dr. Michael Miyasaki, Vice President of Professional Relations and Advanced Education at Discus.  “In addition to benefitting from so many advanced features at a lower cost, the SL3 product support makes this laser the smartest choice for your practice.”

Discus Dental prides itself on being an innovator in laser dentistry. All of our lasers are designed with simplicity and practicality in mind, making them easy to learn, easy to use, and easy to afford. Each laser is manufactured in California, and held to the highest quality standards.  For more information, including a list of training and certification courses, or to purchase SL3 or any other of Discus’ line of lasers, please visit Discus’ website at http://www.discusdental.com/lasers or contact customer service at (800) 422-9448.

There remains a growing belief among clinicians that obturation is to blame for endodontic failures. This notion has more recently fallen under scrutiny as researchers have discovered that the most thorough obturation can only reflect the quality of the cleaning and shaping of the canal. In fact, a number of researchers point to the thorough use of irrigants — making sure that the debris and irrigant itself are lifted completely out of the canal, not forced out the apex — as the most important determinant in the long-term success of an endodontic procedure.
